Cross the Sahara and come back on this private 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga. Drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, walk through the Todra Gorge, and ride a camel into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. Two nights are included, one in the gorges and one in a desert camp under the stars.
You start and finish in Marrakech, returning on day 3 through the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate. The price covers the private air-conditioned vehicle, the driver-guide, the guide at Ait Ben Haddou and both nights with dinner and breakfast, and it drops per person as your group grows. Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech in a private, air-conditioned vehicle, with your own driver-guide for the three days. Departure is between 7:00 to 7:30 am, and the exact pickup time is confirmed the day before.
The road climbs southeast into the High Atlas Mountains, winding through terraced Berber villages and almond groves to the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m, Morocco's highest paved crossing. Because the vehicle is yours, your driver stops wherever catches your eye. Descend to the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, where a local guide walks you through the earthen alleyways and up to the hilltop granary. Continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses to the Dades Valley, with its red rock towers and the winding Monkey Fingers formations. Night in the gorges, at Dades, Tinghir or Kalaa M'Gouna depending on availability, with dinner and breakfast. Lunch along the way is not included.
Drive deeper into the Dades Gorge past the Tissadrine switchbacks, then walk the flat riverbed of the Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise 300 metres on either side. Continue southeast as the oases give way to stony plateau, through Erfoud and its fossil workshops, then Rissani, the old caravan town at the edge of the Sahara. By mid-afternoon the golden waves of Erg Chebbi rise on the horizon, with dunes up to 150 metres high. Reach your desert camp either by sunset camel trek or by 4x4 transfer, whichever you prefer. Dinner under the stars, then Berber drumming around the campfire.
Wake before dawn for the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, when the sand shifts from deep blue to gold. Breakfast at camp, then the road north. The return passes through Ouarzazate, with time for lunch and an optional stop at the Atlas Film Studios or the Taourirt Kasbah. Climb back into the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka in afternoon light, with long shadows across the valleys, and arrive in Marrakech in the early evening, with drop-off at your door.

From 150 EUR per person for groups of 14 to 17, and 410 EUR per person for two travellers. The price per person falls as the group grows, because you share one private vehicle and one driver-guide. Every price includes both nights with dinner and breakfast, the camel trek, the guide at Ait Ben Haddou, and door-to-door pickup.
Yes, that is the point of a private tour. Spend longer at Ait Ben Haddou, add the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, stop at a fossil workshop in Erfoud, or leave the camp later on day 3. Tell your driver on the day, or let us know before departure.
A private tent at a Berber camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes, with dinner and breakfast included, and shared bathroom facilities. A luxury camp upgrade is available at booking, with an ensuite tent, hot shower and better linens.
Roughly 6 hours on day 1, 4 hours on day 2 with several stops, and a longer day 3 on the way back to Marrakech. The distances are real, but the stops are frequent and the scenery changes constantly.
No. Lunches and beverages are not included, so you stop at restaurants your driver knows along the route and pay directly. Dinners and breakfasts at the hotel and the camp are included.
