Only 40 minutes from the city, the Agafay Desert is a landscape of bare hills and dry riverbeds with the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Dinner is a traditional Moroccan tagine served under the stars, followed by live Berber music, drumming and a fire show.

Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech in a private, air-conditioned vehicle, in the late afternoon, so that you reach the desert before sunset. The exact pickup time is confirmed the day before and depends on the season.
Leave the city behind and drive about 40 minutes south-west towards the Agafay Desert. The landscape changes quickly: olive groves give way to bare stone hills, dry riverbeds and wide open horizons, with the snow-capped Atlas Mountains rising in the distance. This is not a sand desert but a hamada, a rocky plateau that turns gold and then deep rose as the light drops.
Arrive at the desert camp in time for the sunset. This is when the optional activities take place: a camel ride along the ridges at a slow pace, or a quad bike ride across the desert tracks, both bookable when you reserve. If you prefer, you can simply settle on the terrace with a mint tea and watch the light change over the hills.
Dinner is served at the camp as the sky darkens: a traditional Moroccan tagine with salads and bread, cooked on site. The evening continues with live Berber music, Tam-Tam drumming around the fire and a fire show. Far from the city lights, the night sky over Agafay is remarkably clear.
