Sleep in the Sahara without giving up half your trip. This shared 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora crosses the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, stops at the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, then follows the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest oasis, down to the desert. A camel carries you into the sunset and a campfire is waiting at the Berber camp.
You travel in a small group of no more than 17 in an air-conditioned minibus, with daily departures and no minimum group size. The price covers the transport, the camp with dinner and breakfast, and both camel treks. You are back in Marrakech in the early evening of day 2. If you would rather have your own vehicle and set your own pace, the private version of this tour is also available.

Price is per person and includes shared minibus transport, a licensed driver-guide, 1 night at the Zagora desert camp with half-board (dinner and breakfast), and both camel treks. No single supplement.
Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech in a shared, air-conditioned minibus, joining other travellers for the trip. Departure is between 7:00 to 7:30 am, and the exact pickup time is confirmed the day before.
The early start means crossing the High Atlas Mountains in the cool morning air, past terraced Berber villages and walnut groves, with a photo stop at the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m. Descend to the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, cross the riverbed and climb to the granary for the panorama. A local guide is available on site for about 3 EUR. Continue to Ouarzazate, Morocco's film capital, where lunch is not included. South of the city the road crosses the Tizi n'Tinififft pass, then drops into the Draa Valley, a ribbon of date palms beneath Jbel Kissane, with kasbahs such as Tamnougalt along the roadside. The group stops for photos and mint tea.
Arrive in Zagora in the late afternoon and meet the camels. The group sets off together for a sunset trek of about an hour at a slow, rocking pace, as the light turns gold then rose over the desert. Your Berber camp welcomes you with mint tea and a private tent. Dinner is a shared tagine, followed by drumming around the campfire under a sky full of stars.
Rise early for the sunrise camel ride, then a Moroccan breakfast of fresh bread, msemen, jam and coffee back at camp. The Draa Valley looks brighter in morning light on the way north. In Ouarzazate, visit the Taourirt Kasbah, the former Glaoui stronghold with its painted cedar ceilings. Cross the High Atlas one final time and arrive back in Marrakech in the early evening, with drop-off at your hotel or riad.
About 360 km, roughly 7 hours of driving with stops. That is why Zagora works as a 2-day trip while Merzouga needs three: it is the closest desert to Marrakech.
Zagora is a rocky desert with smaller dunes, reachable in one day of driving. Merzouga has the tall golden dunes of Erg Chebbi but requires a 3-day tour. If you only have two days, Zagora gives you a real desert night without the extra day on the road.
A Berber camp with a private tent for you, a real bed with blankets, a communal dinner and shared bathroom facilities. The luxury camp upgrade adds an ensuite tent with hot shower and better linens, and is booked at reservation.
