Ouarzazate is the gateway to the Moroccan Sahara, on the southern side of the High Atlas Mountains, reached from Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Nicknamed “Africa’s Hollywood,” it is home to the famous Atlas Film Studios and sits close to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a fortified clay village that has featured in numerous international film productions.
